Plans for many official Android-based netbooks and smart books may be provisionally regarded as the companies market to measure, but if you're desperate for an explosion of open source operating system Google's budget ultraportable there are ways to make yourself do it. The last lesson that we saw comes courtesy of UMPC Fever, the most recent build Android OS 2.0 Donut to their Eee PC.
The current installation procedure is fairly simple, with 2.0 Donut loaded from USB (which also means it is not the netbook donor system to use, but can your favorite laptop computer, or UMPC device). It rests on a specially modified version of the operating system, which is suitably tweaked to work with x86 processors such as Intel Atom Eee PC chip.
As expected, not everything works quite as it should. WiFi, trackpad, battery and screen brightness is reportedly fine, but Bluetooth and webcam is not playing ball so far. Still, if a savings is around netbook, and want to go where you are ASUS and Acer does not seem to dare not, the instructions for you.
