Chip IBM Researchers Find Inspiration

Imagine a microchip with the most beautiful blue eyes you've ever seen and absolutely no tendency to disease. Now that you picture in your head, because it has to do with what IBM is experimenting with.
IBM is playing with artificial DNA nanostructures, or "DNA origami", as a way to develop even smaller chips with lower prices, according to a letter published Sunday in the journal Nature Nanotechnology.
"This is the first demonstration of the use of biological molecules to help with processing in the semiconductor industry," IBM research manager Spike Narayan said in an interview with Reuters. "Basically, this tells us that biological structures such as DNA actually offer some very reproducible, the repeat types of models that we can really use in semiconductor processes."
Narayan went on to say that as DNA origami-step process in levels of production, manufacturers can look at spending less than one million U.S. dollars for polymers, DNA solutions, and heating implements, instead of hundreds of millions of dollars for the assets of complex.
