IBM brings Ruckus - and Power7 new processor

IBM is interested in its servers and supercomputers. Much. After the POWER6 very smug advertising, Big Blue is ready to go to the 7th generation of power which is set to be announced at the Hot Chips conference this evening. With eight cores and four threads of work each SMT4, POWER7 a 45nm chip to perform both tasks, 32. Designers are a big hit in 32MB EDRAM in each chip to improve the latency, dual DDR3 memory controllers 100 GB per second sustained bandwidth, and even mirror and Error Correction Code memory redundancy. Sounds like Boone basic research on the brains of mice and the history of dirty words, but do not expect to hear much about this process outside the server farm.
